Suppose you have 3 litres and 5 litres buckets and an unlimited supply of water. The buckets have no measurement lines on them either. Shouldn't use any other buckets or containers.

How would you measure exactly 4 litres?

Step 1. Fill the 3 litres bucket and pour it into the empty 5 litres bucket.

Step 2. Fill the 3 litres bucket again, and pour enough to fill 5 litres bucket. This leaves exactly 1 litre in the 3 litres bucket.

Step 3. Empty the 5 litres bucket; pour the remaining 1 litre from the 3 litres bucket into the 5 litres bucket.

Step 4. Fill the 3 liter bucket and pour it into the 5 litres bucket.

The 5 liter bucket now has exactly 4 litres.
